Gaustabanen – Europe’s Hidden Alpine Treasure
What truly sets Gausta apart from other European ski destinations is Gaustabanen – a remarkable funicular railway built inside Gaustatoppen. In just 15 minutes, it carries you from the base of the mountain to nearly 1,800 meters above sea level. From here, skiers can enjoy world class off piste runs: either descending directly back into the Gausta ski resort, or following the legendary Olympic/World Championship trail all the way down to the historic town of Rjukan. This unique access makes Gausta one of Scandinavia’s most spectacular ski destinations – combining 37 groomed slopes and family friendly facilities with thrilling freeride terrain rarely found outside the Alps. On clear days, the summit offers panoramic views covering one sixth of Norway. Adding to its prestige, the surrounding region of Rjukan–Notodden is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its industrial history and dramatic natural setting. This blend of cultural heritage, breathtaking scenery, and exclusive ski access makes Gausta a truly rare opportunity for international buyers seeking both lifestyle and investment value.
